Why are the middle east countries calling to boycott french goods?
The call to boycott french goods rise after the French President Emmanuel Macron promised not to give up the cartoons depicting depicting Prophet Mohammad. The president's comments was in response to the beheading of Samuel Paty, outside the school in suburb outside Paris after he showed cartoons of Prophet Mohammad during his class on free speech.
What is the main controversy?
It all started on October 17, when Samuel Paty, a french teacher who presented the cartoons of Prophet Mohammad during his class on free speech was beheaded outside the school in suburb outside Paris to which the president termed as Islamic terrorist attack. The invader was shot by police during his arrest who later died of injuries.
In respect to the teacher, Macron commented that France will not give up the cartoons of Prophet Mohammad. He further said that Paty was assassinated because he incarnated the Republic.
His comments were strongly commended by Muslim leaders across the world.
Boycott French goods
The call to boycott french goods came into the picture after the Arab countries called for boycott of french goods in response to Macron's comments. The boycotts are already underway in Kuwait and Qatar.
In Kuwait, the Union of Consumer Co-operative Societies issued a circular for boycott of french goods on October 23. Several shelves of French made goods we cleared on Sunday in various
stores.
Several stores in Qatar released statements on Friday saying they would pull out french goods from stores until further notice. Qatar university on twitter informed about the postponement of French Cultural Week following the deliberate abuse of Islam and its symbols.
Protests against French President
Protesters took onto the street in several Muslim-majority countries. Protests were carried out by the demonstrators on Sunday in Syria.
Rabaa Allah said that one and a half billion people across the globe had been insulted.
In Deir al-balah, protesters burnt pictures of Macron and called his remarks as an attack and insult against Islam.
People also carried out protests in Tripoli setting fire to french flags and stamped on the pictures of the french president.
In Lebanon, Hezbollah condemned the deliberate insult to the prophet.
The French President urged for an end to such calls, saying that such attacks were the work of Radical minority.
